NAWIC Sacramento Announces 2023-2024 Board of Directors

The Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction has voted in its new board of directors, paving the way for women in the construction industry. As the construction industry’s labor shortage intensifies, the number of women stepping into the industry has reached an all-time high. The number of women working in U.S. construction is just under 1.3 million this year, and women now make up a record 10.9% of the sector’s workforce. *
2023-2024 NAWIC’s national motto is “Keys to the future”, encouraging all to find out what is key to your place in the construction industry, and share your knowledge with others. Whether in the field or the office, “with over 6,000 members, we have the strength and the knowledge to get things done and shape our industry.”

The Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction has voted in its new board of directors, paving the way for women in the construction industry. As the construction industry’s labor shortage intensifies, the number of women stepping into the industry has reached an all-time high. The number of women working in U.S. construction hit 1 million this year for the first time, and women now make up a record 14.1% of the sector’s workforce. *
"NAWIC is all about breaking barriers and removing roadblocks,” says Agata Kwasniewski, NAWIC Sacramento’s outgoing President." This is a very exciting time for NAWIC Sacramento. Our success is a result of the teamwork of the board and its members. It’s been an absolute honor and pleasure to be a part of this growth, and we are just getting started."
2022-2023 NAWIC’s national motto is “Many paths, one mission” which unites all women working within the construction industry, whether in the field or the office, we work together to “strengthen and amplify the success of women in the construction industry”.

Meet Future Leader of The Year- Maria Patchin
Project Quality Manager at Swinerton and NAWIC Sacramento Member

Maria is an accomplished Quality Assurance Engineer and Construction Quality Control Manager who uses her energy to encourage others to contribute to the construction industry as well as collaborate. Maria has contributed to NAWIC at national, regional and chapter level by participation in various committees such as Philanthropic, Emerging Professionals or Diversity and Inclusion. She is also a Board member of the NAWIC Sacramento chapter.
Maria Patchin has earned this nomination because she uniquely inspires those who work beside her. Maria is impacting the direction of the Construction Industry by actively developing new ways to get young people educated about the available opportunities within the industry. In addition, she leads partnering with Leaders in the Gateway apprentice programs. Maria has been ambitious and driven to get women the recognition they deserve. She encourages women to get beyond their comfort zone and face challenges within the construction industry, which makes her an effective leader.

NAWIC Sacramento celebrates 60 years advocating for women in the construction industry.
“For 60 years NAWIC Sacramento has enhanced careers for women working within the construction industry,” says Agata Krasniewska, President of NAWIC Sacramento, DOME Construction. “Working with industry professionals made me recognize the value of building your own network and the importance of positive relationships. NAWIC helped me grow as a professional and gave me an opportunity to be in a leadership position.”
The focus of Women in Construction (WIC) Week is to highlight women as a viable component of the construction industry. WIC Week also provides an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members across the country to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. It is also a time for local chapters to give back to their communities.
“The energy in our NAWIC Sacramento Chapter is terrific. Our 60th charter anniversary is coming up in March which makes WIC Week 2022 even more special,” says WIC Week Committee Chair Dona Lisa Buschmann, Bender Insurance Solutions. “This organization opens up networking opportunities not only at the chapter and regional level but also at the national and international levels. NAWIC Sacramento Chapter is an active supporter of various non-profits within our region, join us to grow your career, network, and have an impact on our community.
